I’m sure there have been more than a few straight women who wished that they had a Roxxxy to take over the bedroom chores when the begging got ugly. But in truth, this is a product that is probably sold to single men more than married men and I’m not really sure what this says about our culture. It seems to me that everyone must be getting plenty of sex because it’s all over our media and we can’t seem to stop talking about it.
That said, I’m curious about what people think about this. To me, it simply points to what I’ve known for at least two decades — that, by and large, men and women have very different sexual and intimacy needs. (Those of you who are straight might want to get on board with what those are before you make any commitments.) This will make the sexual life course journey a lot easier.
But this is also about the avoidance of intimacy. Clearly there are some people who just feel more comfortable with a mechanical person than they do with someone with a personality and a consciousness. Regardless, this article reveals a good deal about who we are as a species. Read the article: “Inventor Unveils $7,000 Talking Sex Robot”
If this is how most men think, or if most men would be okay with having a 7000 dollar robotic sex woman, then YES, men and women are really that different. This whole comment is based primarily on what I've observed with myself and my friends, and doesn't necessarily represent all women. After talking to a few of my girl friends, absolutely none of them said that if they had 7000 to spare, they would be comfortable and would enjoy a male sex doll. It's been proven over and over again that women look for more than just physical attractiveness in a relationship. Speaking for myself, I'm more interested in having a relationship with real emotions and real love. (even though the robotic woman can apparently converse with its owner) I think that the fact that some single men are interested in buying one of these robots is crazy! Is it really that hard to find a woman who you want to be with and speak to? Are these things just being invented because some men are too lazy to put the effort into a relationship?
I think there are plenty of reasons that these dolls are being developed. They could just purely be a sex toy for horny single men, but if they are becoming replacements for having real relationships with real women, then I think we have a serious problem on our hands. Men and women need to learn how to have healthy relationships rather than find solutions, such as 7000 dollar sex dolls, to the real thing.
As far as men and women's sexual intimacy needs go, I think men definitely have a bigger sex drive. A good example is guys going out on the weekend and trying to "hook up" . Based on me and my girl friends, when we go to parties on the weekend, the first thing on our minds is not who we are going to hook up with at the end of it, it's having a fun time and getting away from the stress of the week. My male friends have told me though that their main reason for going out on the weekends and their main goal is to find a woman to bring home. Keeping that in mind, maybe I can understand why a robot like this was developed. Maybe men like the inventor needed something to fulfill their needs that women don't have, and hey, if you have the time and the money I guess you might as well go all out. I'm just glad that they've settled for a robot rather than forcing women into doing things they are uncomfortable with or do not want to do. So I guess I can see the positive side of the whole thing.

This is insane. What is this world coming to. Why can't men just man up and face reality. Its apart of life to build your self esteem and sense of courage. I do not agree with this or other sex toys. This era of humans rely too much on modern technology. I am not saying technology is not helping us, but there are some areas where technology should be really pushed and there are some areas where technology should be only pushed to a certain extent. Why? Why are we having machines control how we act, we are eventually going to turn into robots because the way we respond to things will depend on the capabilities of a machine. We may not see it now but its already happening around us. For example if we had to give a report on something and our computer went dead, a person will wait until the computer is capable of operating before they will begin research instead of going to the library and just writing it out on paper.
Back on the topic of Roxxxy. $7,000 is a lot of money to satisfy yourself when you can just become a man for free and get over it. Roxxxy or the other doll in the picture is not even cute. Yeah they may feel real but you have to close your eyes just to keep the imagination stress free. Cause they are a bit scary if you ask me. I don't get it, they put a lot of work into this doll, she makes sounds of an orgasm, and heats up. We are spending to much time and money on things that are just harmful to the human race and the global environment. Get it together, put your time, money, and brains towards something else that can change the world. Or if you really want to put Roxxxy to use, send it over to Sub Saharan Africa where the fertility rate is high along with the Aids virus. Roxxxy can still satisfy the men while cutting the down the rapidly increasing rate of fertility which will then result in the HIV virus and Aids disease to decrease.
I don't think this doll will sell as these porn executives may think. They are only saying that because they love it and think it is so cool. But in reality how many people have $7,000 to spare or to save up on a toy. The darn doll only last for three hours, yeah you can do a lot in three hours but is it not kind of scary to make love to someone and you both fall asleep snoring then you wake up and the darn toy is dead. How would you feel waking up to a bunch of micro chips covered in some sort of prosthetic material. I would feel pretty bad about my self. Three hours is not enough for $7,000 no matter how many time I can charge it up, because it probably will only last for about three years.

I have heard about these ‘dolls’ before. It seems like an alright idea to me. I mean for someone who has trouble talking with girls or even meeting a girl this is a great opportunity for someone of this nature. I definately would not recomend using these dolls as the only form of companionship. This society is already turning to the computer for many forms of communication, I do not think that just having a doll to talk to is going to help become more vocal. Dropping seven thousand dollars on one doll can be a lot of money when in reality you can spend seven thousand dollars on a real, live girl. For seven thousand dollars you could probably buy an engagement ring and pay for all of the dates leading up to buying that ring. Some people may think that these dolls are a weird invention, but if you cannot get a date, or are just too nervous to talk to a girl, they are beneficial.
On the other hand, I can completely understand when people say this idea of these dolls is creepy. I feel that one needs other human contact, real human contact, to keep their physical, psychological and emotional needs met. If this were to really catch on, reproduction would suddenly come to a stop. There would be no more new babies left in the world to keep the population going. If this would ever happen, it would be very sad. I do not see these dolls doing this to our society however.
Like I mentioned earlier, I feel that the price, more than what the dolls will give off, will shy people away from purchasing these dolls. Therefore, if the dolls were cheaper, sadly, more people would purchase these sex dolls, and in this case it is a shame that real women cannot meet the standard needs of a man. But is this really what this means? Does buying these dolls mean women are not satisfying enough, or does it mean that men are afraid they will not be good enough to satisfy their woman? Do they feel that they need more help or practice? Is that why they buy the doll?
These dolls, also, are completely different from other sex dolls or sex toys. Many people buy toys or dolls, but they do not talk, or feel, or look like a real human being. For better or for worse, these dolls take sex toys to a completely different level. I think if my significant other bought one of these dolls I would be offended. I would feel like I was not fulfilling him sexually enough. For him to go out and spend seven thousand dollars on something that I could be doing for free is appalling.

After reading this article I was in complete and utter shock. The fact that this seven thousand dollar sex robot was invented is mind boggling. First, Roxxxy is a ROBOT! How can one have sex with a robot and even feel satisfied. Sex is supposed to be pleasurable and enjoyable and I do not see how anyone would even want to settle for a robot. I don’t care how lonely, ugly, or self conscious people are, you should never want to settle for a robot as your sex partner. I am actually really disturbed with the idea of people buying this sex toy and actually using it. I though blow up dolls were pushing it, but now robots! I am scared to know what they will come up with next.

I actually am not entirely sure what to say when it comes to the sex doll Roxxxy. This is an interesting product that shows off how far our technological advances have come. The sex doll was built in a way that it has skin made of silicon, and is warm to the touch, and has many amenities to make the doll seem even more human like and able to resemble a woman. The doll even has the ability to speak, with a computer under the warm silicon skin. This doll was built to resemble an actual woman, and built to be used as instant gratification for men who can shell out the asking price of $7,000. But who has that kind of dough, $7,000 is a lot of money I don’t even know of one person who just has that kind of money laying around to spend on anything let alone blowing it on a “realistic” sex doll.
The creator of this product has a projected consumer base of lonely men who have an extremely hard time talking to women. I understand the frustration of what some of these men feel, but I don’t believe that a created sex doll that simulates real female human interaction is the answer that these men should look for. Then again I may be wrong because there have already been a couple thousand pre-orders for the new product. I don’t know if I could actually take someone who uses this product seriously, to me this sort of seems like a plot line to a bad movie or just a joke. It seems like you would see this doll in an American Pie movie, something to laugh at but not to take seriously. It also brings to mind the Fembots from one of the Austin Power’s movies. I feel like a sex toy such as this doll would be like having sex with a robot, a “woman” with a computer for a mind. Now I am sure that robot sex is a fetish that plenty of people throughout the world thoroughly enjoy but, I don’t how many people would actually be comfortable with the idea of having sex with a robot.
The inventor of the Roxxxy also was marketing the sex doll to not only single males but, to couples stating that sometimes “a few straight women who wished that they had a Roxxxy to take over the bedroom chores.” That statement that the inventor made just made me want to ask what woman in a healthy relationship would want a robot sex doll to “satisfy” her man? As a man, I would like to think that woman would want to satisfy her man as well as get satisfaction back from him.

This article is one that truly baffles me. I am an 18-year-old male so needless to say I have an avid sex drive. But when it comes down to it I’m not going to end up humping an assortment of metals and plastics. The sex industry has always been pushing the envelope but this time it may have gone too far. The market for this product is shy or awkward men who “have trouble meeting girls.” How in the world is this going to help them? The only possible consequences I see from this are men becoming so enthralled with their toys that they never want to leave home again. They could also easily develop a phobia of women especially when they start as “awkward” men. With all that being said there is something of worth to take out of this article. The inventor, Douglas Hines, has taken artificial intelligence to another level. The part of the robot that I was really impressed with was the fact that the “skin” of the robot is able to stay warm to the touch. However, no matter how life-like the robot becomes it will never be able to share passion with the owner. Sex without passion is an Oreo without milk. It’s not bad, but it’s not great. When you add that milk for dunking it quickly becomes something extraordinary. This entire concept of an artificial partner leaves me asking the question, is it really that hard for men to meet women? I can only speak on my behalf but I have never really found it hard to meet girls. Reading that sounds arrogant and conceded but it’s true. I have had trouble finding girls I like, and I have had trouble finding girls that like me. But when all is said and done it is something that is far from impossible. These older awkward men should take a tip and let a significant other find them. If you engage in a hobby that you enjoy you will often times find others who share that same passion. Perhaps then they can be comfortable around someone who thinks in words rather than in zeros and ones. With that in mind I can’t help but wonder what sort of “awkward” man has seven grand to throw around. In my experience it is usually the well-spoken clean cut people who have extra money to throw around and not the shy awkward ones. At the end of the day love is what you make it to be. But can someone really end up loving a robot? Perhaps I am missing the point and it is merely just a new sex toy but to me sex has love in it. People need to start remembering that.

This $7,000 sex toy is probably one of strangest things I have seen in a long time. I mean using sex toys is one thing but an entire fake person who can talk back to you is a whole different story. The man who invented this was a smart man tackling a new product in the porn industry, which is one of the largest industries in our country, however; this is not right! What do you think this product will lead to? People use sex toys for pleasure, but what if people started using these dolls as actual companions? This may be a stretch, but if this product gets big in our country then it might affect the amount of people getting married, or having children. I think this product says that our culture will do anything for sexual pleasure. How does that make our country look. Does it say that we don’t care about intimate relationships as much as a plastic doll that gets the job done? Other countries generalize that Americans tend to rush through the day and get things done as fast as possible so that they can move on to something else, so does this new sex toy support that theory. Are we just resorting to plastic people to do our dirty work so we don’t have to spend time finding a relationship and working out problems. Some people want the sex because they love their partners and others just want the pleasure without intimacy. This is where I believe men and women differ within their own personal sexual needs.
It is clear in this article that they only talk about men ordering this new doll, not women. This is because men like the sexual pleasure more than the intimacy that should come with it. That is why it does not matter for men if the women is real or plastic. They don’t care! Now, I can’t say this is true for all men, but by looking at how many men are ordering these dolls I can generalize that this applies to most men. Women on the other hand favor intimacy and passion over just the sexual pleasure that they get while having sex. This is why most women would not be ok with having sex with a plastic doll, but again I can’t say this is true for all women.
This plastic toy can also play with people’s physiological and emotional needs. People may buy one of these dolls because they have social problems and they have trouble talking to people on their own. However, these toys are not going to help at all and may even allow people to avoid social conversations and become even more socially awkward then they were before. After these plastic people come out are people going to take them around in public? Are they going to treat them like their real girlfriends and form a relationship with them? If this does happen, how would that make the surrounding public feel? These dolls are not necessary and would potentially cause more problems then they are worth.

This article just made me completely sick. I understand the idea of a sex doll, but to have a sex doll that responds to you and is almost lifelike, scares the shit out of me. I am a shy guy myself, but I would never want a Roxxxy because IT IS NOT A REAL PERSON. What’s wrong with finding a real person, who will show you true emotion and love you honestly? I guess that’s not necessary anymore because thanks to Douglas Hines, claimed “married man,” he made a sex doll that talks to us! YAY! Douglas Hines is a true genius because single handedly satisfied every man’s sexual desire. Thanks Doug!
This guy really has no life if he spent three years making the “perfect” sex doll. The idea of having an artificial sex doll meet your sexually needs sounds so stupid. If some guys really feel like they need a Roxxxy to meet their needs, then they must be big time losers. And seriously, just take one look at the guy who made the Roxxxy. He looks like a real loser himself. Too make a doll so lifelike and to spend almost three years on it, THREE YEARS, then he must have some serious problems. When you really think about it, what motivated this guy to make such a perfect sex doll? Was he having problems with his own marriage? Is he really married? Does he have a life at all? Because most people I know that enjoy life, it doesn’t all boil down to sex for them. I know it doesn’t for me. This guy must only think about sex 24/7. That’s the only answer I have for his motivation to make a Roxxxy.
What is the world coming to? Because I really don’t think that we should need Roxxxy’s to help satisfy guys in bed. To be honest I really don’t know how I should feel about this topic. It just seems extremely wrong to me. I guess if guys really want a sex doll then what is stopping them from getting one. I just don’t understand why people would go through the trouble to pay $7,000 for a sex toy. To me $7,000 is a semester worth of tuition. Now that I think of it, if you buy this sex toy, then you’re basically buying your own personal hooker. Except that your hooker is not a real person. Hey look at the bright side guys; at least she doesn’t have any STDs.
I really don’t know how to respond to this article. It makes me sick to my stomach and I swear to God that if I ever hear anyone of my friends is thinking about buying one of these dolls I will definitely smack them across the face and tell them to sober up because OBVIOUSLY they are not thinking clearly. How often do you have to think about sex in order to consider buying a Roxxxy? Seriously? This topic just seems completely wrong to me because it’s not real. It is not real!
[Reply]
I was so disgusted by this article because I think that anyone who needs to purchase a sex toy for $7,000 is mentally disturbed. I agree that from a criminal justice perspective, this toy is simply egging on sexual predators to feel more in control.
I do not see what good these dolls can do then mess even further with the minds of people who are already sick. One blogger posted: “The doll creates an environment that allows the person using the doll to eventually feel comfortable saying and doing things to it that are inappropriate.” I understand that Roxxxy is meant to help “lonely people who have trouble meeting girls” but this is just further complicating the issue. This doll will completely remove these men from reality because what woman in their right mind would want to be with a man who gets his sexual pleasure from a robot? Furthermore, once these men are exposed to such a high-functioning robot, what incentive do they really have to go out and meet anyone else? In this age of technology and computers, many fear that we are losing face-to-face interaction. I have never really agreed with this until reading about Roxxxy. These socially awkward men are never going to have the opportunity to meet real women; instead, they are going to depend on a robot for the rest of their lives. I do not understand how this could be the more attractive path.
I am seriously so repulsed by this creation. I read someone else’s post that said that the creator Douglas Hines is a moron. I could not agree more. There are so many better ways that this idiot could put his talent to better use! Why are you making a toy that is just going to put even sicker thoughts into sick people’s minds? I just really do not understand the logic here. I like how the article tries to justify this by saying that 4,000 men have already pre-ordered this product. Congratulations, 4,000 perverts and sexual predators are buying your product.
I find it interesting that they claim that Douglas Hines is “happily married.” I could not fathom being married to a man who felt the need to spend his free time creating an artificial wife. Clearly, he is not happily married. Maybe I am jumping to conclusions, but anyone who would be married to someone like this must be a gold-digger. Just as a woman, I am offended by Roxxxy, but as the wife of the man who created it? Can you really be proud of your husband when he is, most likely, just helping to advance sexual crimes? I think that Roxxy and its creator are both absolutely appalling.
[Reply]
Wow, this is disturbing! I cannot believe people are actually looking to pay $7,000 for a robot to fulfill their sexual needs. Are there not enough live men and women in the world to satisfy these needs? As a female, I cannot believe I will have to compete with a doll for a guy's affection. What is this world coming to, that some people will prefer a silent sex partner as oppose to someone who actually cares about them?
Maybe I am too traditional, but I would much rather have sex with a real person that I love and care about than a doll. Relationships should be based on things other than just sex. If a man or woman wants a relationship for just sex, then I feel sorry for them and they are missing out on many other things. A sexual doll won't be able to communicate with them or make them feel loved or console them, or cuddle with them. The doll is not a companion it is a toy. This toy will not always be perfect and she cannot make a man or woman happy forever.
I had to laugh when I read in the article that Hines is happily married. If I was Hines' wife, I would have a lot to say about his new toy, Roxxy. I cannot believe she is allowing her husband to ruin the special bond between humans in relationships by making this robot. If I were her, I would be offended and start to doubt myself and my marriage. If he needs a doll to satisfy his sexual needs, then maybe there is a serious problem with their marriage. By selling Roxxy, Hines could be bringing trouble to other people's marriages and relationships too. Our divorce rate is already at 50%, I am sure it will increase when people find out they can be satisfied by a doll. We cannot afford to have any more failed marriages in our country.
Another problem with this doll, even if people do not buy it, Roxxy is made to look like the superficial model type. She has the perfect features and she is filling the human mind with false ideas of the perfect woman. Men and women may begin to become superficial themselves and focus on the physical dimensions of people rather than their personalities.
I think Hines should focus his intelligence on trying to cure diseases or something of importance not making sex toys. I have to agree with jel5191's statement that the Roxxy doll is an example of how we use technology for petty things and relationships are being ruined by this technology. Our society focuses on instant satisfaction and dating and relationships have taken a backseat to the selfish sexual desires of people.
[Reply]
Ok so I think that this is stupid. First, the cost is too expensive for a toy. But hey some people are going to buy it, so for them it’s not. I’m just a struggling college student who won’t be able to afford any kind of toy or non-essential item that costs $7,000 anytime soon. Second, I agree with Sam that this is an issue that involves avoiding intimacy. The purchasing of this doll speaks for itself. People will purchase this doll in my opinion because they fear intimacy or do not know how to be intimate. Therefore, purchasing this doll will suffice for the time being. I do not think that it will help anyone in the long run, especially if they do not plan on being alone forever. The article says that its target audience are “shy, awkward or older men who; have trouble meeting girls." They will never be able to hold a conversation with a female that they like. With this doll these men will never improve on their social skills because they are in living in a fantasy world. This is a world where they can charge, control “her” personalities, and lay up next to a “robot.” Those who purchase this toy are not living reality and all this only exists in their minds. How creepy does that sound? In my opinion, this is crazy and it is really creepy. This toy has no real feelings, emotions, or character. Just because it snores and talks in its sleep, it is not human. When we have to refer to something as “it” then we should really think about if they really embody human characteristics.
Apparently with the high and positive response to this toy there are differences in sexual desires between men and women. However, I think that this toy just enhances the sexual desires for men but eliminates any opportunity for intimacy. At some point in life, when it becomes important to the person they will desire intimacy as well. It’s obvious that this is more than a sex toy.
I think this is just another excuse to run away from problems. If we all had the choice at some point in our lives we would like to program the opposite sex as we seen fit. I can discuss many times when I would just want to reprogram a man so that they would understand and do as I would. But this is not the case, we cannot change people. So this doll only allows, as I stated before, room to live in a fantasy world. This is sad that our society has come to this, but if this is what people like and it makes them happy than who am I to judge. I’m all for happiness so if this for someone, okay.

When I first heard about this new robot, for the first time in my entire life I was speechless. I understand that we live in the age where innovation and technology are increasing by the minute but I think that this is just outrageous. A robot that can “talk back to you” while you have sex with her does not seem remotely attractive to me at all. I am a female so naturally this kind of thing would not appeal to me but I know that if the same kind of thing was to come out in “male” form, I would be just as appalled. How can anyone think that buying a robot could even come close to interaction with a real person? I know that she processes everything that you say to her, but there has to be some sort of delay before she answers, and your conversation can only last for 3 hours unless your near an outlet. She also only takes on the positions that you put her into yourself. What kind of human acts like that? None. Aside from the conversation, I find it virtually impossible that having sex with a robot is any substitute for having sex with a real person. Even now I’m not even sure what to say about that, but how can the two even compare?
It almost makes me uncomfortable to know that the mean who invented this is a “happily married” man. I feel that if I was his wife I would almost be insulted. Even being a woman I feel like this could sort of be demeaning. It’s putting this idea that having sex with women is almost like not good enough. That only a robot is good enough for what men are looking for, and I to some point find that insulting. I understand that it was made for shy and intimidated men but I think it can be seen either way. When it comes down to certain men being extremely shy or timid, I think that this invention, for lack of a better word, is pathetic. For people who have trouble meeting other partners there are many other ways of meeting people such as online dating websites. These websites allow you to meet someone without having to have the courage to approach them and face the possibility of rejection. If I ever started dating a guy in the future and found out that he had spent seven thousand dollars for this type of thing that would be an automatic deal breaker for me. Is it really worth spending that type of money for? There are so many other things in this world worth spending this type of money for and this surely is not one of them.

This is absolutely shocking to me. I'm surprised someone was stoop to this level to get sex, and it is shocking to me that someone would create a doll like this. This doll really says a lot about how far (not necessarily in a good way), our culture has come. Although the price of $7,000 for one of these dolls is outrageous, I'm not surprised that so many men are interested in purchasing one. However, what do these men think of themselves when they resort to having sex with a fake person like this? I could never do that to myself for so many reasons, because it's not real. Even though this doll has five different personalities, it is astounding that someone would want to buy and use Roxxxy. Our technology has advanced so much that we now can have sex with a fake person made of silicon…that is just disgusting to me. Some people above discussed how this might decrease rapes and assaults, which could be true. I think it's sad though that people resort to a doll. Furthermore, people may buy it because they are shy, scared, socially challenged etc, but I don't know how this doll will help. I think using the doll only hinders their abilities more, because it isn't real. I think you should find another way to spend $7,000 instead of on a piece of silicon like this. The sad thing is, I think if Roxxxy were cheaper many more men would buy it. I feel like many males wouldn't be appealed to this because they think it's absurd, although the numbers conflict with that belief. I think if Hines were my husband I would tell him he can just have the doll he made and leave him, because I can't imagine being around someone who thinks this is a positive product. Roxxxy isn't even cute. Waking up next to Roxxxy would give me nightmares.
Roxxxy may look appealing now, but by next year they're going to have another doll out that can cook and clean while she can have sex. If I were to resort to something this low, I would wait for the next big thing to come out, because to me this is a waste of money, and it causes further damage to someone's life for not giving them true love and relationships. I think people to just do the real thing with a real person. I'm sure it's a lot better.

This is yet another example that highlights how technology is ruining the social interactions people should be having on their own. Cell phones, computers, and toys like these only distance people instead of their supposed task of uniting them. A new term has even come about called “sexting” which obviously means what it looks like it means. Don’t get me wrong technology is without a doubt helping our society in terms of convenience and the other opportunities it provides people to communicate besides face to face. However, the problem lies in the fact that people are now substituting these face to face interactions with Facebook, cell phones and now intimacy can be substituted sadly for a sex robot.
It is odd to me that the creator of this new talking sex robot is happily married, I would definitely question that. What made him think of the idea besides the fact that he would purely just be able to make money? Something in his background has to be astray to think of something like this to sell to lonely males looking for this. Such a sex device is really the tipping point in our society in terms of relationship communication. This robot also highlights the stereotypes we give to people of the opposite sex such as “turning them off when we want to.” This really means that men don’t like when women talk too much. Users of this device will only become detached from the outside world from using a sex robot because the whole part of interaction is dealing with the other person’s good and bad qualities. Who needs sex or a relationship now when you can just buy one? It’s almost like legalizing prostitution without having the prostitute actually there.
Well obviously there is a demand for this since thousands of people have already signed up. The demographic seems to be wealthy males who don’t have this part of intimacy in their lives and for some odd reason they think silicon designed robot can fulfill this need. Can money buy happiness? I’m not a believer of this but I guess the demand shows that maybe it can. Or maybe it’s just a substitute for happiness so that these men don’t have to think about not having a woman in their lives. When thinking about the technology of this female sex robot which is pretty impressive, it is actually sad. Trying to replicate the body motions and talking behavior of another women or man is really just plain impossible. Every person is unique and that is the beauty of intimacy, it really cannot be replicated. However, I suppose if some people want a sex robot male or female and there is a market for it they deserve to have one if they can pay such a sum for a sad substitute for happiness.

This article absolutely amazes me and I can’t decide whether I’m angry and speechless or just need to laugh about it. The reason why I’m torn is because on one hand it’s gross, unfortunate, and definitely a sign of how people are beginning to rely too much on “technology” to live their life. Nobody talks to each other anymore—everything is internet or text message based. And now here’s a toy that eliminates the need for another human in order to have sex. I’m not saying that this is the first object to get rid of this component—obviously other sex toys have been around for quite a while before this one.
However on the other hand, I’m an engineering student, so I can’t deny the hard work and creativity that went into the successful development of this product. I mean, maybe having tubes that run heated air throughout the body to warm the “skin” up would seem like a no brainer to someone who was in the market for a sex doll, but I’ve never had one so reading about that particular feature made me think to myself, “wow, now that is some high quality product development right there.” With that being said, I don’t think anyone can honestly say that the doll’s talking feature isn’t impressive either. The fact that you can 1) choose it’s “personality” and 2) talk to it (regardless of what it is you may be *ahem* saying to it) and that the doll will respond almost immediately just boggles my mind. I mean, what other consumer product have we seen that has the same capabilities? So it is for these reasons that I can appreciate the engineering that went into the designing and producing this doll.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that I truly do appreciate the time that this man put into creating this doll/robot and that I kind of hope he is successful with it because his brains led him to come up with an innovative product in a market that definitely has a wide variety of toys to begin with, so he deserves it. However I can’t deny the fact that it’s terribly sad that something like this is “needed” simply because our society becomes more and more dependent on things that eliminate the need for direct human-to-human contact… and now it’s like nobody really knows how to talk or act with each other unless if they’re typing it in a text message or on someone’s Facebook wall.

All I can really say about this is wow. First and foremost, the sexual aspects aside, it is kind of crazy and very impressive that we have gotten this far in technology that they have figured out a way that men can have sex with something that feels completely like a real woman. It is also very impressive and mind boggling that you can ask this doll any question and it will answer you. But now, on to the sexual aspect. I think that this doll is very weird and bizarre. First off, $7,000 is a lot of money to spend on what is essentially a sex toy. That to me seems a little bit ridiculous.
[Reply]
Also, I think that the people who would be buying these toys are single, desperate men. I think that if you are that insecure and antisocial that you cannot even pick up the most desperate of women to have sex with you, then these men should spend that $7,000 on a psychiatrist or dating expert who can help them get some people skills so that they can pick up their own women. When I first heard about the doll, the only person I could think of that would use and maybe even need this doll is the man in Pittsburgh who made a video and shot up an aerobics class at a gym and then himself last summer because he could not seem to have sex with a woman in over ten years. I also think that the doll is ridiculous because like it says in the blog, it is a complete avoidance of intimacy. Even though women seem to turn to sex for more of an emotional and intimate experience more than men do, I still believe that there is an intimate part of sex that men do look for. I do not believe that men are so sex crazed that they do not even want to have sex with a real woman.
[Reply]
Although they can virtually train this doll to be their dream woman, that is until it runs out of its charged and needs to be plugged in again, it still, obviously, does not compare to being with a real woman I would imagine. We are already becoming a culture that is getting better and better at avoiding face to face contact and we are eventually going to be a culture that has virtually no social skills. People can talk over the internet and text and they walk with their iPods in so that nobody can talk to them. Now men don’t even need women for sex. Like honestly, what is this world coming to? This concept is so utterly ridiculous to me that I cannot even believe someone actually thought of it.

This is one of the most creepiest things I have ever seen. How in the hell can you sell a damn human sized rubber barbie doll that makes sex noises. Seven THOUSAND dollars for some bullshit like that, what happen to just going out meeting someone and having sex? I mean obviously it is easier said then done but its also helps you as a person. Who wants to have a freaking cabbage patch doll as your soul mate. I mean seriously, you and a bunch of your friends aka homeboys are gossiping about what girls they had sex with last night after the party or how great or even terrible their weekend was. And the only thing that you can say is that I had sex with a BARBIE doll, o my freaking gosh your friends proable cant wait to hear that . To have sex with a rubber doll has to be the most downgrading thing anyone I mean anyone could possibly deal with , honestly i couldn't deal with the emotional embaressment of knowing I screwed I robot. And for the people who bye this mess, you must really be UGLY or just flat out a boring no girl having , 40 year old virgin of the century. YOU are screwing a DOLL people come on and for seven thousand dollars. You can go down to a strip club and get some real serious action for 20 times less than that.
But at the same time I am utterly amazed at the type of technology we are enhancing ourselves with. But I am also sick because we are spending 7000$ on a fake ass orgasm. No wonder our country is so in debt. Because when we have money we waste it and go buy stupid unhumalike things, I think if a human is creepy enough to go and buy a doll for seven thousand dollars he is just mentally ill or just sick. Then on top of that literally on top of a doll and preforming sexual intercourse is just ridiculous and that person should be evaluated. Instead of worrying about different cultures and customs. We should be focused on f**king Barbies to get off.
This just shows us how far we have come as an country and what changes we are making over time but at the same time how we are wasting our evolutionary intelligence.
[Reply]
A sex toy for $7,000 might be the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard. I think anyone that buys it is insane and must be incredibly desperate. I think men and women definitely have different sexual and intimacy needs but only to a certain extent. Men want sex so much more then women do in most cases, and to me they show it a lot more and go way out of their way to get it, the doll would be one example. Most women will not go out and buy the sex toy Rocky because they really do not see a need to buy it and it would end up costing the company more money to make it because not nearly as many women will be buying it as men. I do not understand how a guys mind works that he would go that far to buy a toy for that much.
Frankly I think it is kind of scary that they said 4,000 men have already pre-ordered it. There are strip clubs and yes you won’t get everything you want there but at least the girls are real and not fake talking dolls. It is also scary to see how much the world today has developed. You go from most people spending maybe around 100 dollars on sex toys to now 7,000 that is just nuts. The article said that most men that are buying this are shy and awkward, which I have no doubt about it but I feel sorry for them that they have to steep this low to get any action. They should try dating sites or something, anything but buying this doll because it is just creepy.
These men have most likely tried dating and could just not find their true love or someone that they can connect with on a certain level but that is pathetic that the only person you can feel a true connection with is a doll. With the money that they are spending on the Roxy doll they could be spending on so many other things, better things. Its sad that all of this technology and the man who developed this is obviously a smart man could he not try and use his intelligence on something useful and not a sex toy. I understand that he will sadly enough probably make a lot of money from the doll but I am pretty sure he could have come up with something else and I find it interesting that he is married and coming up with this to m I would have thought the man to come up with this would be someone that had no life and no woman or family.

This sex toy thing is just not right to me like 7,000 to bust a nut on a doll so not cool this outrageous. I guess there are something and someone for everyone. I just can believe these dolls are making an impact like this in this day and time, matter a fact I can believe it guys these days are not getting love at home or from anyone and there are so desperate they go out and get dolls. Well I guess this is where the world is coming to and it’s kind of scary like seriously. Douglas Hines you half to give this man some props for coming up with a technology like this was genius but Dougy why you had to create dolls for use that brain to cure the next big disease everything these day are about quick money makers and sex is one of them. Sex will sell if you are promoting it right and Doug looks like he doing a fine job with that. It amazing that .True Companion claims that more than 4,000 men have placed pre-orders for Roxxxy robots, and another 20,000 or so have requested information about the product. Imagine when this thing really hit the streets I’m not going to be surprise to see that doll around campus with someone and can get that serious. Hines said it was cute when people see the doll out in the public not I would think that it makes me sick to my stomach it’s not me for real so I can care less. I just think it’s so amazing how far we came with technology like I can remember when there was no flat screen TV’s no blue ray movies no gps systems its getting real crazy in this world . You half to think what will happen next sometimes it’s scary because you never know what we are going to get these days and some stuff they are creating these days are hurting our future most people that make these new technology are just living for it now and for the money and not for our future that’s what scares me. I’m not knocking anyone from making money just be careful with the stuff we make these day some stuff are just not called for I think these kind of dolls are not it God made us to interact with our loves ones not a doll I know even god is upstairs like wtf like really. This is said to see that people are giving up on love and just want sex and nothing more to me you have nothing to live for if there is no love .

My initial thought to this was first a bit of laughter, which slowly turned into freight. To think that technology is advancing as fast as it is so that lonely, socially awkward men can own an artificial wife, and one that will care for their social and sexual needs, is downright frightening. What a waste of technology and intelligence on Hines’ part. I could think of a million and one other devices that I would like to own than an artificial sex robot named Roxxxy. (One of them being a robot that WILL in fact do the dishes and vacuum the house.) It’s no secret that society as a whole has become increasingly lazier and dumber with the advancement of technology. Instead of going to the library, you can hop onto a computer. And instead of going to your neighbor’s house, you can now call them from a phone. Well, forget that, why get up and go to the phone, why not have one a cell phone in the palm of your hand, complete with the internet. And instead of having to go out into the so-called “real world” and meet people, for friendship, companionship or sexual purposes, let’s just invent a eerily-realistic looking “sex doll” that will not only hold a conversation with me like a real wife, but is warm to the touch and will shudder in orgasm. I don’t know what’s more shameful: Hines for coming up with the idea and inventing Roxxxy, or the fact that there is an actual demand for this type or product. Certainly, all of the money being spent to purchase the dolls and the amount of time and money put into the creation of her could have been put into getting psychological help for the people who struggle with social or interaction disorders. That would be a novel idea to help the better of society. Today in class, Sam mentioned how about half of the people who get married in the class are going to commit adultery in their lifetime. If that’s the case and people are tempted by other women who have real emotions and can walk around, how is someone going to be entertained by a doll for an extensive period of time? How is this going to affect marriages of the future? Am I going to have to worry about cheating on my wife with a sex doll at the local store? Is that going to be my biggest temptation when I am married? I sure hope not. Then again, Roxxxy will cost me a whole lot less than my future wife will. If I still can’t find a job in a few years, I know I have a backup plan.
[Reply]
Where do I start? I get that men have bigger sex drives and therefore need to use alternative methods to satisfy it, but this may be taking things a little too far. It’s actually kind of sad and I feel sorry for anyone that has to resort to a sex robot. I’m assuming anyone who would drop $7,000 for one isn’t the most social person and this just gives them even less motivation to socialize with real people. I find it funny that the creator says that guys “need” this. Really, need? If the guy is smart enough to build something as elaborate as this, than I’m sure he could have spent the last three years of his life in a more productive way. To each his own, I guess.

Ha, I think this proves what we have known about men for a long time now some just don't want any real intimacy. They simply don't always crave the actual relationship, emotional part. I think that we would find a the male toy they are thinking about making wouldn't do nearly as well, now I am not saying it wouldn't sell, but I think women are much less likely to spend 1,000s on a sex toy.
There are simply some people in this world that are not meant to have a relationship, they are better alone, and happy alone. But, as we discussed in class, everyone desires touch and sex. In that respect this doll would be a best seller and fit these peoples needs.
I myself am a hopeless romantic and I personally think this is very strange, if i was dating a guy and found out he had one of these I would be a little creeped out. For me, call me old fashioned, sex is about a lot more than just the actual action, I could never share that with a robotic doll. Everyone is different though, and I understand that.
The doll also does not move on its own? so can you really enjoy yourself, no surprises and no REAL touch. It is just another way for men to masturbate really. Is that really worth $7,000? People have some good points though, maybe it will help keep rapists of the street or help some men become more confident. It could also create sex addicts, perhaps a race of men that expect and become used to sex all the time when they want it that is meaningless and how THEY want it. There is really no way to tell what will happen unless this catches on. I don't think now it is anything to worry about, not until the price begins to drop so that is becomes available to a larger market of people.
While sitting here with 4 of my roommates I began to ask them what they thought about a sex doll like Roxxxy. Their responses were a mix of ew, and giggles. It is humorous to them that someone would actually pay that amount of money for put quite simply, a sex toy. they also think that is someone they were dating owned one they would find that weird, possibly because they ask themselves why they would have to turn to that, when they are dating them? But even if they owned that before they began to date, I would still find is really strange. maybe that is something of guys to think about before they run out and purchase this, although I think their main market may be people who would have girlfriends anyway.

It is really sad to see how the new developments being made in technology are being out to use. I won't discredit the inventor of the robot, hell I'll even give him credit for it, it's a very inventive piece of technology, but I feel that that technology could have been put to better use. The intimacy needs of men are by far much stronger than most women, but $7000 for a sex doll is just ridiculous. I could find a much better use for that much money, such as a new car, or paying off loans. If a person wants sexual satisfaction, all they have to do is go on the internet. It is really degrading to men to bee so socially inept that they can't even go out and meet people on their own, and have to resort to buying artificial love. Although sickening, it is really easy to believe that over 4000 people have already put in an order to buy one of these. I know plenty of socially awkward people, even a couple who I could actually see buying this hunk of metal, but the necessity of it is just baffling. The male version of the doll disturbs me too. I find far less likely that women will but a lot of these, as they usually have more self-respect for themselves. In general, I think that this doll gives people a false sense of satisfaction, not just sexually, but also socially. What they don't realize is that this doll is not really a real world type of object, so when they actually meet someone who they are interested in, they'll probably do the wrong thing, just making their whole situation worse. While this inventor is making millions off selling this toy, he is jeopardizing the social lives of thousands of people. I honestly hope that on the packaging of the doll, there is a waiver saying something along the lines of that this doll is not intended as a way to make your life feel better, because it may help the people buying it to realize that in the end, the only way to find true love is to get out of your house and find it. It has become a sad ordeal seeing all of these innovations compounded with the internet to make socializing out in public a much less common occurrence than it used to be. With more innovations in technology such as these, the future of person to person socialization is in a lot of jeopardy. While these inventions are in a sense brilliant considering the technology behind it, they would be much more beneficial in a field such as medicine, where these interactions could help people recovering from health related issues. Just a thought, but it's worth looking into.

Is this a joke, really? I cannot believe there is a sex toy for $7000 dollars that men and maybe even some women actually buy. Personally, I do not think there are many people out there who are more comfortable with a mechanical person than a real person. I think it is a sore excuse not to go out and find someone and in the long run they are hurting themselves. If you think about it this it is kind of like the virtual schooling debate where people worry that kids will not get the social aspect of going to school. If a person does not go out in the world and try to find a woman are they not missing out on something? I guess this is a freedom we have in the United States, but I feel like a person should go out and at least try.

The idea of a 7,000 dollar sex robot is very strange to me. I mean, I understand why there is a market for it because so much of culture is sex-driven, but paying 7,000 dollars for a sex toy designed to replace real companionship is too much. 7,000 dollars is a lot of money and it makes me wonder who would spend that much on a sex toy. Imagine the kinds of more important things that money could go towards. A silicone woman can’t possibly replace a real woman on levels of intimacy. There are other things besides sex that make you feel close to a person. As for the comment that many women would want Roxxxy to “take over the bedroom chores when the begging got ugly,” I don’t think this is true. I wouldn’t want the person I’m with to use a talking sex doll in place of me, and I’m sure many other women would agree that it would be weird. It brings me to the question that if you can’t have sex with a real person, who has a real body and real emotions, is it really worth it to spend 7,000 dollars on a doll to use in their place?
While reading the article, some things made sense to me and others did not. One quote that I did not understand by the creator, Douglas Hines, referred to potential customers of Roxxxy. "They're like, 'I can't wait to meet her,' " Hines said. "It's almost like the anticipation of a first date." I laughed and was creeped out at the same time after reading this. I really don’t see how purchasing this doll and waiting to receive it can be compared to the anticipation of a first date. I continued to be creeped out throughout reading the article, such as when Hines said his customer base is “Shy, awkward or older men who "have trouble meeting girls."’ That makes them seem incredibly desperate. What will happen if a man develops an emotional dependency on Roxxxy? It could lead to some very confusing and disturbing situations. Also, the last line was concerning: "Whenever she's out in public, everyone wants to talk to her and pose for pictures. It's so cute." That is not cute.
I do give Hines some credit though because Roxxxy is very complex. The fact that she can respond to someone talking to her with appropriate responses in real-time is impressive, and so is the idea to make her “skin” heated. And of course, he will make money off of this product. Although, I do think he could have used his knowledge and time to create something much more important and less creepy. I also wonder what his wife thinks of all this.
[Reply]
I think the title of this article is all wrong- “Men and Women- Are We Really That Different?” The answer is yes, we are that different, and the article this post is referring to reinforces that. The Roxxxy is a female doll. It is not a male doll, nor does there seem to be a male counterpart coming out in the market place anytime soon. Therefore, a better question to ask might be “Are All Women Really That Different?” The fact that there is a female sex doll coming into the market place is one thing, but the article goes on to say that it comes with four different programmed personalities. That’s almost like saying all female personalities fit into one of these four general categories. I guess in this particular situation they are referring strictly to sexual categories of personality. I wonder if that is suggesting that females can switch between a bunch of different sexual alter egos, or that the owner of the doll is in some way having sex with four completely different types of women. Either way, it’s just completely strange to me that there would be so much demand for this project in the first place. $7000 is a lot of money- certainly enough to buy something of great functional use that doesn’t elicit meaningless sex with a non-human. The article pointed out that the product isn’t even out yet but they are already getting many preorders for it. This great demand really shows where America stands on the issue of sex. It is certainly not the 1950s anymore. Back then, married couples on tv shows were shown sleeping in separate beds at night. Sexuality and sex wasn’t talked about, and it definitely was not shown in the media. As a culture, Americans tended to wait until marriage, or at least until in love, to engage in sex with another person. Even so, it was never really talked about. Fast forward to today and things are quite different. Sex is everywhere in the media, and everyone is always talking about it. I think this leads everyone to believe that everyone is and should be sexually active all the time. Whether or not people are actually having sex as much as everyone else thinks, I don’t know, but I do know its on people’s minds more now that it probably ever was. People no longer wait for emotional intimacy to engage in physical intimacy. That connection is broken. Thus, I don’t find it completely surprising that people can “fulfill their sexual needs” with a non- human object. Since love and/or a real connection is no longer a precursor or a requirement for sex, why not have sex with something you can buy. It is a lot safer than picking up a prostitute or rape, which are other ways some people deal with their sexual aggression and lack of consenting partners. So are men and women really alike or different? I’m not sure but I don’t think that has any relevance to the artilce.

I think im going to take 2 stances on this one.
1) Having this outlet for a man might be a great thing, leading to less womanizing and using. Even though technically, he would be womanizing poor sally or beth or what ever they name her probably every night, it is less harmful to a human spirit. It might help men who have issues with intimacy to get out their sexual frustration and satisfy that carnal desire without having to hurt innocent women along the way. For all of those college guys out there ( who probably couldn't afford this in the first place) It might allow them to fulfill their needs without having to go to a party, meet a girl, pretend he likes her, whisper sweet nothings in here ear and proceed to have sex with her and kick her out. This is just another sex toy , which i think are acceptable in society so it might be a positive for some men. Consider those men who have trouble opening up to a women but still want to have sex, or men who may not look like what society wants and cant get a girl for a long period of time. It is just giving them an outlet to express themselves sexually. Like mentioned in the article, and after seeing sex rehab with dr. drew , this almost seems like it could be a helpful tactic for those men with sexual issues. Those sex addicts constantly use women and drop them, and cant connect on a deeper level with the women they have sex with, and just hurt people along the way. Maybe a doll for those that have problems with sexuality and forming strong human connections can use this without harming anybody.
2) this is sort of gross? It says that it is an ideal woman but she is 5'7 and 120 pounds, that is on the very skinny side. This already presents an issue. If men are going to use this, they are going to expect an extremely thin, lifeless doll out of a woman when they have a real relationship. They might expect their girlfriend to just be a sex toy that they can stick wherever and whenever they want while expect their skin to be flawless, makeup perfect and body exquisite. It is sort of similar to the barbie doll issue that arose 20 so years ago. Women are being compared to plastic and it is only harming their self esteem. This doll seems to be directly implanting these same thoughts into men, giving them something to compare a women to. I also feel that this would probably make having relationships hard. Men would stop linking sex to romance and love and intimacy and just start linking it to a quick orgasm and pleasure. If the love is taken out of the sex, then the idea of men being sex driven pigs will only worsen. Men that are already unlikely to settle down and treat women as a prize would probably only become worse after seeing that some " women or pseudo women" can give out sex hundreds of times a day ! I believe that this doll will be taking the romance out of a relationship by giving men an alternative, someone who doesn't talk back to them, listens to them and offers infinite sex. What else could a man want? Well hopefully they want intimacy and love and conversation and understanding, but this lifelike doll is actually a far cry from a real women and could potentially be a detriment to relationships everywhere

What is the difference between a seven thousand dollar doll and an overly expensive dildo or vibrator? I don't think there is much of a difference aside from the price tag. Obviously many people have needs and wants that, to others, are weird and incomprehensible. People do not realize the magnitude of the porn and sex toy industry. And it is important to think about the other types of people who are oddly different than the norm. Who are we to judge? As long as this is happening behind closed doors, as does other odd fetish behaviors, what is the big deal? It is a business adventure for the creator and it is creating scrutiny which i'm sure he knew while spending time making the product. It is fact that people do weird things, especially things that the majority does not approve of, so why not explore this through a business venture? I do find it kind of funny that someone would choose a $7000 doll over a prostitute or another form of entertainment. Let's be realistic here. When many people think of the types of people who attend bars, night clubs and sex shops regularly, we as a society tend to judge them or make all encompassing assumptions. For me personally, I do not really care what people do with their hard earned money, especially if they are socially inept. If a man is interested in having sex with an expensive silicone doll for a few years because his partner left him or maybe he could never get a real partner, more power to him. There are so many fetishes out there that make people laugh or want to puke and this is just one example. We are judging the people who may be interested in buying a doll, when there is really no point. Granted, if I found out a family member or friend of mine had one of these in their closets or under their bed, I would also begin to make assumptions. Unfortunately that is the society we live in today. Happiness is one of the hardest things to understand and achieve and well, if purchasing a fake doll for an absurd price and making love to it for a few years ends up making that individual happy, then great for him. Do I think that the idea of a product of this sort is pathetic? Yes. But I also feel that people have the freedom to spend their money on whatever they want. I don’t think many people are going to tell others that they bought one, or make it public knowledge but I do think that there are far worse things to worry about when it comes to understanding people. All in all, it’s an awkward business venture that is directed towards a demographic that I would not want to come in contact with. But that does not make it wrong by any means.

So as I am skimming through these blogs trying to find one that interests me, I see a semi-real looking woman staring at me with creepy eyes. I was drawn. Sure, it's definitely a little odd that there is basically a "woman" you can buy, and at the convenient price of $7000. As sketchy and grimy as it sounds, this technology is a very good thing. It was mentioned in the article that the market for Roxxxy is older, shy men. Well this is great for them! All those men (or women) who are lonely and want some form of companionship can now get it if they can afford it. With technology increasing every second, the opportunities and creations are limitless.
I can say that I would never buy this product, but for some, placing their order was probably a very happy moment for them. In a few months, they will have someone to be with. If this person is not genetically "real", who cares? Everyone needs someone, and if that someone is Roxxxy, then so be it. You should always do the things that make you happy in life. The numbers of people wanting Roxxxy is astounding! 4000 orders have already been placed, and 20,000 people inquiring about the product. I never thought that this form of artificial intelligence would be used in this way, but it is creating and changing an entire market. These consumers are obviously willing to spend their money for this product and I believe this will not be the last we hear about Roxxxy and possibly some of her "potential friends".
The fact that she can communicate with you makes the experience seem more personable and less like a simple doll. She can make you feel welcoming and happy. Many people would probably find this doll to be nothing more than disgusting and perverted, but as a woman, I think very differently. If a man wants to purchase Roxxxy, go ahead! Enjoy yourself and feel comfortable with a woman for a chance if you happen to be shy or not very "good" with women. Technology is breaking through for many people and it is a good thing. And so what if she’s not real and you have to charge her every three hours? She “understands” what you are saying and can take away the lonliness that many people are experiencing.
I hope that this product doesn’t get bad publicity or a bad reputation, because I think many people do not think far enough into it to really get a grasp on why these people are purchasing this doll. Even myself when I first starting reading the article thought “Why do people spend this amount of money on a plastic doll?”, but it is much more than that and can add a lot of meaning to someone’s life.

I found this article very interesting, I find it amazing how realistic this Roxxy robot looks, the fact that to own her you have to pay 7,000 dollars is a little much. I had to think to myself when reading to article though what kind of men are going to be buying this doll, or how many perverted men out there are going to be taking out a loan just to own one of these dolls.
I found it crazy that there were a few women who wished they had Roxxy to take over the bedroom chores. In my opinion if you have to give your significant other a robot to satisfy his needs I think there are bigger issues at hand. The fact that Roxxy can respond, and has different types of personalities is something else too the only thing that would make her that much better is if she could walk. However, it is amazing how Douglas Hines has developed such a life like doll besides that though I think that it is weird I feel that besides single lonely men the other other people who are going to be interested in Roxxy is women because they are going to be curious what all this doll can do. To see how it compares, and I am sure that men will be equally as interested once to male is introduced.
When I think of this sex toy coming out on the market the only picture I get in my head is a lonely man falling in love with Roxxy because she can respond and take care of his needs. That is not a pretty thought, as soon as they advance this Roxxy doll in the next few years when she is able to take care of chores there is not going to be real relationships anymore. I just find it amazing that they have come this far. I feel that the only way that Roxxy will be worth the money one has to pay is if she comes with a lifetime warranty because she requires a charge and the fact that it is going to be mostly single men buying this, which means it will probably be used quite often means that this toy will get warn out, and it will need proper cleaning after each use. I guess I just don't understand, sex is suppose to occur between two people in love not with a synthetic skinned robotic doll. I just find that so strange, and the fact that there are so many strange rangers out there I feel that once Roxxy is released that we will wind up seeing her when we are out to eat have a full on conversation with her owner.

It is hard to read about this Roxxxy doll without getting just a little creeped out. While it is true that men and women have different sexual needs, it is taking it too far having a sex doll that can be programmed to act as a "real" woman. It is understandable that there are men out there who are simply awkward and have no game with women, but giving them the option to totally give up and rely on artificial intelligence to give them a relationship is disturbing. The desire to have a relationship is programmed into all of us from birth. The ways in which we establish relationships is quite different for many people. Creating a sex doll that answers questions the way a man desires and performs the ways he wants is killing the prospect of intimacy. Think about the people who are going to buy this product. Sure, some young men with crazy sex drives and money to spare will buy it to fulfill their energizer bunny sex needs. And probably some older men who are single or widowed who have given up on finding a mate. But then there is that middle group of married men who feel their sex life is inadequate. It is hard to imagine a guy feeling the need to have sex with a robot instead of having sex with his wife or girlfriend. Then we also have to consider the consequences. Perfect, lifelike woman who answers all his questions just the way he wants, doesn't nag him, talks dirty, simulates orgasm, and can be turned off with a switch? There are definitely some sick guys who are going to feel what they believe to be a real connection with this robot girl. If men start to feel as though they are establishing relationships with these Roxxxy dolls, we are introduced to a whole new disgusting fetish. And if they get tired of one personality, they can change it to something new. That's like 5 ideal woman in one body. Guys may even lose their abilities to function in any sort of relationship outside of an artificial one. Having the power to have sex with this doll whenever and where ever they want can lead to the creation of more pedophiles and rapists.
Maybe that won't be the case with most buyers. The point I am trying to make is that even in such a technologically advanced society we should not lose the need for real relationships and intimacy. If a guy is having trouble meeting a girl, there are so many more outlets available today besides buying a robot. Dating websites have proven to set up even the most awkward people. Everyone is capable of finding some sort of partner, and paying $7000 for an artificial mate should not be what this world is coming to.

I think this is absolutely disgusting and awful. How desperate can guys get that they have to pay $7,000 to have sex? It’s not only desperate, it is degrading. Men looking to buy these Roxxxy dolls are looking for someone to have sex with without the commitment or intimacy of a relationship. Why can’t they just get some confidence and meet a real woman without having to spend thousands of dollars on a doll? It sickens me that this is in our culture and this is what we have come to. Over 4,000 already sold and 20,000 inquired about? Come on guys, that is just pathetic. This doll just turns women into objects and it just feeds men’s lust. We’re created to be relational people, not people who can truly be satisfied talking to a robot about NASCAR. Once men get used to doing it with dolls and controlling every position, response, and attitude of the “women”, won’t this only worsen men when they come in contact with real women? Won’t they then just expect us to be exactly like that? Who is this Douglas Hines guy? How can his wife let him put this on the market? If I was her I would be offended and feel like less of a woman because I couldn’t satisfy my husband enough that he needed to make a doll in order to get some pleasure… I would also be pissed off to learn that I married a scum bag. Some people don’t think that if they had sex with a doll and they were married it would be cheating. I disagree. A lot more is involved in cheating than just physical actions. Yeah, they didn’t physically cheat on you with a real person, but they are mentally and psychologically connecting with something else and getting pleasure from someone other than their wife or significant other. To me is says that I was not good enough so they had to go somewhere else, and to me that is cheating. I think the people who are willing to buy this doll and go to such lengths in order to get some really have a problem. Think about it- you’re having sex with a doll! I mean, if you’re really that desperate, go grab the neighbor’s dog- that idea is equally as disgusting and unreasonable. This article is ridiculous; I am almost hoping it is a joke. Is that what our society has come to? Are people so inundated with sex that we are now allowing dolls to be put on the market so we can have sex with them? Come on America, don’t be desperate. Have some standards and go ask a real person out.

Two weeks ago, I was watching National Geographic’s show called “Taboo.” On this particular episode, they were explaining the taboos of love, and one of the examples was people who prefer dolls over real people. Just like Roxxxy, the show hosted two men who looked pretty normal, but had dolls as girlfriends. I found this very odd because it is hard to believe that dolls could replace a living human being as a partner in life. However, to those who are in “doll relationships,” it is completely opposite. The people who were talking on the show explained that they did not know how to talk or act around women so they decided to use dolls as girlfriends. They were also tested for some sort of mental/psychological condition. I found it interesting that they are much like gays and lesbians, in terms of the brain/hormone development. However, not all people who purchase these dolls have this condition. I think that some people who may be interested in these dolls could be sex addicts or curious to what it would be like to have one. Some people also might have a fetish for this sort of thing. A sex toy like Roxxxy is probably geared towards men who cannot fulfill their sexual needs. Obviously, this kind of toy is not viewed as the normal thing to have. Is it okay for men who cannot find real partners to rely on a doll to replace them? For some, Roxxxy is an escape from the reality of finding your partner in life. This would be viewed as unnatural and weird. To the world, I feel that this sort of invention would only come from the U.S. This is because in America, you are “supposed” to not be judgmental or prejudice against any sort of people. Whether it is race, religion, or sexuality, we are in a society where you can be who you want to be. If you want to have a Roxxxy then you can. But in some other countries, cultures would probably see this as unacceptable and sick. I am not shocked to see that someone would actually invent an artificial human sex toy because just like Roxxxy, there are plenty of other odd/weird inventions that have come from the U.S.
It is interesting to see the development of technology and how it is used. A couple years back “Old School,” the movie had guys playing with a blow-up doll, now it is robotic and silicone. This is taking the sex toys to a whole new level. This is not just your average product you see in the sex shop when you go in to buy a gift for your partner. 7,000 dollars is a steep investment especially when it is a sex toy. I find it amazing that 4,000 have already been pre-ordered. While Roxxxy may please some men, I am curious to see how some women react to “Rocky,” the male version.

I did not even see this article posted last week, it was not until in my discussion group yesterday that I had even heard of this. I was really interested in reading what the article had to say, and what this new doll was all about. After reading this article I have to say that I was somewhat grossed out with the thought of people having sex with a robot, but I am not all that surprised. Over the summer at work I read an article interviewing a man who fixes silicone sex dolls. These dolls looked the same as the ones in this article except they did not talk nor were they warm to the touch. He is one of the only men in the country that can fix these dolls that are so precious to their owners. Thus it was only a matter of time until someone in software created a sex robot. I think that with this recent advancement of sex robots, things have just gotten stranger. For some people in the world Roxxxy will take place of a real woman companion, and that is scary for the future generations. It is one thing if a man would want to have sex with an expensive sex doll, but know that it breathes and snores it has gone way past a toy into a gray area of fake relationships. These individuals need to put themselves out there and join the real world with the rest of us.
Today we live in a world that is all about instant gratification. With technology as efficient as it is today people expect to get what they want fast and easy. This transfers over to imitate relationships. The general public wants relationships to be easy with no chance of conflict. Younger generations are having more casual, sexual relationships, and I feel like this is just taking that to the next level. Obviously there are some really lonely people in the world that feel their only option is to have a companion with a doll. It is obviously true for many men because Roxxxy already has thousands of preorders and even more requests for information. These men also have no trouble dropping thousands of dollars on a fake intimate buddy.
It is true that men and women have different sex drives and needs, but I think it is ridiculous to say that men cannot be satisfied by a real woman companion. Or that they do not have enough drive to get the interested and go after a real woman. People should be free to do what they want with their money and life. However, I do not see how a doll, no matter how high tech she is, can replace a real relationship with another human being. It just goes to show that technology is making our population more and more anti-social; soon we will have no contact with other people in the world. We will be alone in a world that we share with another 6 billions plus people.

This idea of a sex robot is very scary. It obviously takes away from the emotional side of a companion and is only there for a physical aspect. This not only hurts those using the doll, but the people this person knows and associates with in real life. The person who uses the doll will begin to alienate themselves from society and others and may feel the need to not speak with people. It also gives women a bad light as well. Males who may use the product will view women as nothing but a sexual object and nothing more. This could potentially lead to a rise in rape and a lack of interest in a true woman. It also will begin to show young children who see the doll as a way out of being intimate. The doll promotes nothing more than loneliness and self loathing. The only times the user will feel better is for those few minutes of use, but then go back to their world alone. If married men buy the doll is will inevitably break up a marriage. Finding a companion in silicon is not normal is downright wrong. Before the idea of an inflatable girlfriend or roxxxy was even created, people found other ways to bond. This takes the idea of sex toys to a new and scary realm.
Luckily as stated this is a very small market place, but still promotes a lack of relationships. Human beings need to have relationships, and those who do not interact have a scary road ahead of them. I do not understand how one can have a sexual encounter with a woman and not need some sort of feeling or connection. The doll just sits there and I am assuming sounds like a machine. This scares and worries me that that turns people on. I think women should be the most worried that some men are steering away from a woman’s touch and personality. I think if this doll takes off, the amount of rapes will rise. This is scary because the men can do whatever they please to this doll and may feel the need to carry this out on a real woman.

A $7000 sex doll is ridiculous. I mean why would anyone buy a sex toy which costs more than a hooker? I mean people who are really desperate can go to a brothel or something and hire a prostitute for the night. I think that sex addicts instead of regular single guys should buy this toy; perhaps Tiger Woods could get a couple of those and have a lot of fun. Things like this shouldn’t be taken over by technology. It is so sad to see human beings trying to fulfill their sexual needs with the help of a doll. Honestly, this is an awesome invention and the guy has already sold it to 4000 men and has become a millionaire overnight. I also agree with the fact the men and women have different sexual desires but again a $7000 doll is way too much. If a married man spends $7000 bucks on that doll, he is absolutely stupid. I would rather spend $7000 bucks on my wife instead of buying that doll. I also believe that building a relationship with the opposite sex is so important. It is one of the most important aspects in life. There is no way you can build a relationship with a doll. I mean what the hell where the 4000 men thinking when they bought this. They are just going to have sex with the doll all day; what about going out for dinner or maybe on a vacation. You can’t take the doll with you. A shy person will become more introverted after buying this doll. This doll is probably going to ruin a lot of lives. Someone mentioned above that women have more sex toys available to them to satisfy their sexual needs. I agree with this statement but the toys are along the lines of a dildo or something of that sort and not an actual sex doll with a penis. You can’t compare apples to oranges; I mean a vibrator is nothing like a sex doll. The fleshlight is something that could be compared to vibrators. The inner part of the fleshlight comes in different shapes like a mouth or a vagina. A freaking sex doll named Roxxxy is pathetic. Think about the rest of the world reading about this doll and how bad the reputation of American would get. People from other parts of the world would be like WTF is wrong with these people. Hines is a genius but I wish he used his brain to come up with a better invention that would actually help our society and not make it worse. As I mentioned above, this doll is going to make those shy, awkward people even more introverted and shy.

Wow what in the world…. This man is sick and so is his invention. Although it is cool that he was so creative in creating a talking female robot… but honestly, who in the world would want to settle for something fake when you can enjoy the real thing? Speaking from a female’s perspective, I know that dudes want to have sex more than us, women, but sometimes it is opposite…. and no matter how our sex drives work I believe everyone enjoys sex. However, I have a huge problem when people rely 100% on technology in terms of video games, internet, phone text messaging etc. and now on dolls to satisfy their sexual needs. What happened to a society where face-to-face communication and interaction was implemented? I think all those computer inventions will soon overtake human lives and we will be in the background while the robots will take over our daily lives. My generation already cannot survive a day without their phones and internet connection. If suddenly they lose their phone they get antsy and left out; they freak out and get lost. It is sad that today’s world is seen only through technological eyes. I have to admit I am a technology freak too and I would not know how to live one day without a TV, radio, IPod, my phone, etc. However, inventing a robot to substitute a potential sex partner is just absurd.

cont… The inventor of this doll claims that Roxxy “will have sex whenever you please — as long as her battery doesn't run out”. No shit, females will have sex too but there is a limit to their human battery too. After women have children, their sex drives go down and something I think a man should understand and not get frustrated nor buy himself a robot, nor cheat on his wife just because she doesn’t enjoy sex as much anymore. “Meet Roxxxy, who may be the world's most sophisticated talking female sex robot. For $7,000, she's all yours.” What happened to personal touch, feelings, romance and for that matter even sense of smell, etc? The sad reality is that thousands of men already pre ordered this doll online and are waiting for a delivery within a few months, which means a tremendous decrease in the male market. I honestly do not understand those man and their sick erotic fantasies. I do not know but I feel like this invention will not bring any good to anyone. In my opinion, this will only create more psychopaths and killers who will fantasize about this robot and then go out in the real world and will not know how to start conversing with a woman. His awkwardness will bring to rejection that will follow by his anger and later even violence toward that female. What happened to romance and all the crazy/awkward stories we all like to share with our friends and later grandchildren about how our first dates went etc. I honestly would not want to hear a story about how anyone first met his/her dream sex robot.

Is this what we as a society have come to. I serious don't feel like I should be judging people's sexual nature and/or anything like that, but having this "sex toy" can be very unhealthy mentally. Men and women around the world would use this toy as defense mechanism to not have to worry about having to go out and meet people because they would have a toy that would do everything they please. Just by saying that it talks to you is like wow you are programing it to be exactly what you want it to be, and what fun is that. I very strongly feel that this toy should not be out because it will start to give men a disturbed view into what a relationship among real people is like. Not everyone is the same and not everyone gets along all the time, so having this dummy would make other people obsolete. By making the robot as lively as possible it is making it seem as if there is no need to have any human company because this doll will fix it all.
Then when it comes to the price I feel that there are definitely more important things out in the world to be spending that money on. $7,000 is a lot of money in the times we live in. That money could be put up for something more productive. The article states about how more than four thousand men have placed an order for this doll and that just makes me think that those men are so lonely that they have to get a doll to make them happy. I don't know if I am stating my thoughts correctly because I don't want to make it seem as if I don;t think these people should practice their rights and do what they please. But I just feel that they should take the time and think about this robot, and why it is they are so interested in this robot. Maybe I'm just interested in knowing what it is that is going through the minds of the men ordering these robots.

This is just absolutely ridiculous! How can one man be so insecure or just so horny that he needs to resort to paying seven thousand dollars on a technologically advanced doll to have satisfaction? It is also so absurd that someone even wanted to create such a robot. I wonder what kind of guy this is. I would like to hang out with him just to see what he is like. I just do not think that this could be real.
In my head, this puts a whole new meaning to the phrase “Sex sells”. This is obviously a replacement for women for sex addicts and men who are socially inadequate. I cannot see a normal person wanting to use this so called “device”. What if in some strange reality that this becomes the normal thing? That they make a robot that is so lifelike that they become normal citizens. It sounds like it is from some kind of science fiction movie. These robots become the obsession of every man and soon the world’s reproduction rate actually begins to decrease. Eventually the species of man would become obsolete and the women will evolve to the world without men and they could either reproduce asexually or with other women.
I know this seems extremely bizarre and farfetched but that is how I feel about the fact that man is now building human like toys to have sex with. It should be illegal. Like how can this be actually acceptable to have sex with in some men’s minds? I wonder, if a guy in fact owns one of these sex robots, does he brag about it or even let people know that he is in possession of one of these sex dolls? I know that if I ever really wanted the need to have one of these I definitely would not tell anyone.
It is also illogical to spend seven thousand dollars on a stupid piece of advanced technology for something that you can do on your own with a REAL lady. Those seven thousand dollars could have easily gone to a good cause to help people; like donating it to help people in Haiti where their problems are in much more need of fixing than a guys libido being hurt. Also, if the guy really does have problems with socializing with woman, he could use that money on classes or some sort of self-help so that he does not need any sort of sexual toy to have pleasure. He can socialize with real women and get things done the more natural way. A being made of wires and a fake personality just does not seem right to be around with. One should always choose flesh over wires.

To me I find this topic kind of funny, because sex is not only power but as you can see its sells. Whether its sex toys, porn, protection, or the media portraying it. Sex is not only life, but it sells and who is to blame Douglas Hines for making something so fake, but yet so real. You can’t knock his hustle he’s getting money for a sex doll that’s people are actually buying. It seem when reading this topic that others will be shocked, but get real this is America, people invent things every day. And if Douglas Hines didn’t invent the sex doll, I guarantee this the next human mind would have. To be honest if it was me I wish I created such great idea. Especially since his stacks (money) are piling up by the day. Now with that said I didn’t agree with the sex doll as a sex partner, but I did agree with the theory behind it. This dude is a genius for this one.
To the men who buy the sex dolls, I think that’s ridiculous that you have to scoop that low just to get a nut off. Not only is it disgusting, but have you ever heard this phrase “that there’s that perfect someone for every person”. That’s why it’s a certain logic to that phrase. Now if the men are scooping this low to buy this doll, what’s next, having to molest a real person just for your own satisfaction? That’s the question I have for them. Whether they agree with my statement or not, that’s how I see it. And you couldn’t change my mind about that unless you have an absolute reason for the sex doll.
Ladies you know your doll is coming as well. That’s just how this world operates. Now if u asks me would I feel the same way about the doll if it was a man for lady? To be straight forward no, because it’s the same as having a vibrator for themselves or a dildo; just with a puppet as man with the dildo attached. It’s just like gays; it seems people are calmer with lesbians than gay men. That’s this so called society we live in today.
Would I ever get a sex doll? No, because that’s stupid and I don’t want to brag but I can pretty much get the real deal anytime!
[Reply]
I agree that men and women have different desires in sexual needs. I really do not think that I know any female that would pay seven thousand dollars for a sex doll. I know since men have higher sex drives more than men it can get annoying when a man always wants sex. Speaking from a female perspective there is no most of us will spend seven thousand dollars on a sex doll to do that job for us. I also think most guy if their partner got them a sex doll they would realize that it was time to end the relationship. I also feel that if a guy felt that his girlfriend or wife could not fulfill his needs he would just find real women to cheat on her with. I also feel that this toy is a little bit degrading to females.
I also find it outrageous that guys are willing to waste their money on a sex doll. I can understand that some people who are older and shy might have a hard time finding a partner in real life, but to pay that much amount of money for a doll is crazy. For a person to be that shy that they cannot even find a girl to talk to is a sign that person might need some therapy. Males buying sex dolls like this will ruin our society by not making people deal with their issues they have with commitment or relationships. In addition, if these males ever find themselves in a relationship they will expect the person to be just like the doll when they get into a real relationship they may turn violent if the lady refuses sex from him.
If a man is willing to pay seven thousand dollars for a sex doll that has a negative impact on our society. It gives the idea to foreigners that America is so sex driven that they will pay to huge amounts of money with a fake person. The people with all that money should be doing something that would better the society like feeding the poor. There are plenty of people in need of basic stuff fir their families and a person with seven thousand can easily fulfill her needs.
Overall, I think this is one of the worst inventions of all time. It is true that people have a hard time finding people to have sex with but a doll is just ridiculous. I do not think that this product will be on the market for a long time. I am sure that it is only a matter of time before some group out there puts an end to the sale of the sex toy.
[Reply]
I think it is ridiculous that sex toys worth thousands of dollars have to be produced. I understand that there are those “shy” men that have difficulties interacting with women but I think they should practice their social skills instead of “dating” a Roxxxy. Also, it’s totally and completely weird that someone would own one of these. It’s unnatural and it shouldn’t be done.
Also, the men run the risk of falling in love with the doll because they would become intimate with it through sex. This could cause a mental problem in men and lead to disastrous consequences. However, I can see why Roxxxy would be a success in the market. If men don’t have girlfriends or wives then they have to resort to prostitutes which are very dangerous. Prostitutes can carry all types of diseases that are just not worth getting fro one night of pleasure. So this is where the doll comes in. She can perform the same types of tasks but she does not have these life-threatening diseases.
I see that people think that this doll may lead to more rapes and such but I think it may be the opposite. Because the sex offenders will have a realistic doll to play with and to release sexual pleasure with, it may keep them from having to find victims to pursue. Why would they need to sexually abuse someone when they can have sex with this doll that is willing to do it with them?
Another thing about this doll is that it can hold conversation with humans. The artificial intelligence is cool but it is creepy. We are going as far as producing a doll that looks feels and speaks like us but where will it stop? If you’ve seen iRobot then you know what the world may become or even Surrogates. I know these are fiction but it seems like we keep walking towards that specific aspect of the future.
Robots can “think” for themselves because of their software that is programmed by a computer scientist or engineer but what happens when someone programs it or taps into the system to program it to do other tasks than what is expected of these dolls.
It is scary thinking about how the humans are not capable of interacting with each other and need an artificial object to make a connection with instead. I feel like technology continues to draw us away from one another little by little. Take a look at the iPod. People don’t spark up random conversation while on a bus ride or at a park anymore because they always are doing something else. Whether it’s texting on your cell phone or listening to your iPod, you make yourself less approachable. I feel like this doll will do the same for society.
