I think that you bring up a number of good points in your question to the class. I personally was shocked at the way that Sam made me feel about our actions and how others see us. It was amazing to me that when you sit in someone else’s, perspective is flipped completely and you can be viewed as the bad guy even if you didn’t initially feel that way. When thinking about whether or not we can co exit, I think that it is possible, but I also feel that as you said, it is a dog eat dog world out there and only the strong survive. If we are going to be looked at as evil and countries are going to want to kill us, I think that we have the right to protect ourselves and our families.
I think that this is a very good question, and it really made me think. Although coexisting peacefully would be great, and actually ideal, I don’t think that we as humans could pull it off at this point. There are so many different cultures, religions, and races that live side by side on continents and even within countries. As long as there are different races, religions, and cultures, I don’t feel as if we could all get along. There will always be some small argument going on between different groups of people. I wish it wasn’t this way, but for the time being, I don’t think we can truly coexist.
i definitely think that we can co-exist. I personally have a few friends who are Muslim and are from the other side of the world, and we are really close. I think we could all benefit from having friends from other parts of the world. It makes you more aware of things than just what you see through your narrow spectrum of life. As for the whole deal with oil, there is plenty of other places that we can and do get oil from. I do not believe we have a right to go into someone else's land and try to take over their oil. It is their oil, and we should have to go about the correct way of obtaining the oil from them. So yes, I think we can co-exist if we all just embraced each other and treated everyone as human beings.
The West culture and the Middle East will never co exist. Our beliefs and way of life do not mix. There will always be conflict due to religion and oil and this will exist for many generations. In today’s world it is very hard for cultures with such different backgrounds to peacefully co exist. It is sad to say that but it’s the truth and it is how the world works. They judge us just as much as we judge them. Of course there are people over in Iraq and Afghanistan that are just innocent bystanders but there were also innocent Americans who died on 9/11.
In an ideal world, yes we could all coexist and share the Earth’s resources to a reasonable degree. Unfortunately, a world where most people in other countries are working together and coexisting peacefully does not exist here. It is human nature to be competitive. As long as there are people who have pride in their country and what they are doing, there will always be conflict. Most people are not ok with being second best or not as good as someone else and that type of mentality carries over between countries. Just like when we had first found a way to get into space, it turned into the space race. Every little advancement in technology creates more competition to better one’s country.
